Close and Brook arrived in Fayetteville last week to begin the installation.

Brook drove a 16-foot box truck filled with the sonic sculptures from Los Angeles, accompanied by her dog Moma.

Last week Close and Brook installed 17 sonic sculptures designed and created by Close, for an interactive exhibit "Close Sound" which will be housed in the WAC's Joy Pratt Markham Gallery through Jan. 3.

On Saturday and Sunday, Close and Brook installed and tuned the Earth Harp in the plaza of the WAC.

During the performances the strings will spring to life as a musical instrument played by Close and Brook to compliment the performers and video imagery.

Brook said they are often in and out of a city in about five days.After the WAC residency, the company will return to Los Angeles where they will install the Earth Harp on a building for a holiday lighting ceremony.
During the two-week residency, the group is showcasing almost their entire repertoire.They are lecturing for school groups, performing, installing the Earth Harps and the smaller sonic sculptures, and conducting a hands-on instrument building workshop.
"This is the type stuff we do," Brook said."We work with children, we do art installation, instrument building workshops."
The one program that the company will not be presenting in Fayetteville is the yoga and sound workshop.For the yoga and sound workshop, Brook, a yoga instructor, leads participants in yoga practice while the Earth Harp is played.

Brook (www.yogagirl.com) is also a flier and combines yoga with aerial performance.
"I'll be just off the ground to create an interaction between myself and the ground and myself and the singer," Brook said.
Brook will also be doing an original spoken word piece, which is included on one of MASS Ensemble's four albums.

Performing with Close and Brook will be MASS Ensemble members Chris Woods who will play electric violin and veteran jazz drummer and percussionist Richard Sherwood, who will add an element of improv.

"He [Sherwood] is one of those people who can sit down in any situation and play the right thing and guide where it will go," Brook said.

"We think about what a site calls for," Brook said.

Brook said Sala will "draw the audience in" for a more intimate performance.

"What's really neat about it, they [the instruments] don't eliminate anyone," Brook said.
