If the race is still very tight , it could conceivably go to that day , said David Brine , communications director for the Washington Secretary of State , who added that if the Nov.22 results show a difference of less than half of 1 percent , state law demands an automatic recount that could last until Dec.7.
...
Brine said that there likely will be ballots to be counted by Nov.22 , most likely absentee or special and/or question ballots..
He added that if the recount takes place after that date , it would be done during the week after Thanksgiving , and likely finished by the end of that week.
Only King County , Wash. , will count ballots Friday , Brine added , because the state otherwise is celebrating Veteran's Day on Nov.10.He said , however , that this will likely chew into a pretty good chunk of the 600 , 000-plus absentees that are counted..
We will have a much better idea of what's left over , he said. The next big viewpoint on this race will come at the end of tomorrow..
Neither Gorton nor Cantwell officials were immediately available for comment.
Both candidates have taken stances on a number of tech issues , most notably the ongoing litigation between Microsoft and the Justice Department and more than a dozen state attorneys general.
