l Just Dandy: St Martins artist Steve Bright who put two of the village landmarks on the map when he featured them in the Dandy's Bananaman comic strip. HD060106LEN'S Plaice fish and chip shop in St Martins became the second village landmark to be featured in the Dandy comics last week, thanks to the imagination of local artist Steve Bright.
Steve Bright, who lives at St Martins featured Stan's Superstore and the nearby fish and chip shop Len's Plaice in his adventures of Bananaman, the children's character he helped create more than 20 years ago.
Steve decided to include Stan's in a comic strip for the 2006 Dandy Annual while another featuring Len's Plaice was reprinted last week as readers voted for their favourite strips of the past 12 months.
Originally from Scotland, Steve began his career on The Dandy after leaving school at 18 and now works as a freelance comic artist and writer, having moved to St Martins four years ago with his partner, Samantha, who does the colour work on the Bananaman illustrations.
In the strip which features Stan's Superstore, Steve's superhero accidentally eats a bad banana and then goes to the store to buy an uncontaminated batch, restoring his super powers.

Steve says it was pure chance that the strip featuring Len's Plaice was reprinted at the same time as the annual and that he was pleasantly surprised at the interest it had created: "Samantha and I are both regular customers at Stan's.It's our local store and I thought it would be a good idea to include it in the story," he said, "It's a great name for a supermarket!"
