Lyn Breuer, the state member for Giles is stating her concern for local community and boutique tourism activities regarding the cuttlefish.

"(The cuttlefish) have become a unique worldwide tourism attraction."Film crews from all over the world visit the area."

Not surprisingly the Minister for Tourism Jane Lomax-Smith feels the same way and echos Lyn Breuer's concern over the area's development. The local tourism is largely dependant on the cuttlefish still being around for many years to come, so it's in her best interest to be cautious of anything that would disturb their natural habitat.

The Member for Giles, Lyn Breuer, says industrialisation of the Point Lowly Peninsula could ruin the area's coastline and habitat.

Ms Breuer says the only positives it will bring to the area are job opportunities.

"There's been talk about jobs but we don't think that jobs warrant the problems that they could create for us," she says.

The Labor Member for Giles, Lyn Breuer, says there was a consultation period with OneSteel over the indenture, but she says it was the Government that made the final decision.

"The indenture doesn't prevent the licence conditions being changed. There's a community group that's working with OneSteel now and working with the Government as local community reps on it and they're looking at the dust standards," Ms Breuer said.
