Commander Luna will be filling a vacancy created by retiring Deputy Chief John Bretza.
Commander Luna is currently the Chief of Staff in the office of the Chief of Police. He began his career with the Long Beach Police Department in 1985 as a reserve officer. In April 1987, he was hired on as a full time police officer. As an officer, Commander Luna worked in Patrol, Metro Division, Drug Investigations Section, Homicide Detail and SWAT. He was then promoted to Sergeant in 1993 where he worked Patrol, Gang Enforcement, SWAT and was Administrative Sergeant to the Deputy Chief of the Detective Bureau.
