The chapter planned its inaugural book fair after one of its members learned that many books in Syble Hopp's classrooms and library are old and worn out, said Nick Bretl, a 27-year-old NWTC marketing student and member of the association.

"A lot of the smaller schools get lost in the shuffle because the budgets are real tight and there's not enough funding to go around," Bretl said."When we found out about it, we said, 'Why not help out this school out?'"

The Wisconsin Marketing and Management Association is the junior collegiate division of DECA, a high school association of marketing students.

Hosting the book fair falls in line with both organizations' mission of community service, Bretl said.It also provides members of the Green Bay chapter hands-on marketing experience, from printing flyers to calling potential sponsors.

"The most challenging thing is building up the courage to cold-call people," said Bretl, who plans to work in sports and entertainment marketing after graduation.
