Three of those teams received honorable mention by placing in the top six, said tournament official Judy Breting, but all were strong contenders.
"They all represented their schools well," Breting said. "The community can be proud of them."
According to Breting, who is on the state board of directors for the Michigan Creativity Association which sponsors the tournament, it is an honor just to be one of the approximately 2,000 students who earned an invitation to the state level after taking top awards at the regional tournament. She explained that about 6,000 Michigan students started out at the regional level.
"It's certainly an honor to even make it to (the state) level to compete and I would think a special honor to receive recognition at that level, such as honorable mention," she said.
From this area, one team from Lake Hills Elementary School, two teams from Mary A. White Elementary and three teams from Peach Plains Elementary competed on Saturday, after earning top awards at the regional level.
On Saturday, three of those teams earned honorable mentions after finishing in fourth, fifth or sixth place. One team from Peach Plains Elementary School placed sixth out of 21 teams in the challenge "ConneDId," while another Peach Plains team finished fourth place in "Theater smARTS" out of 17 teams.
