   Kathy Bressler Kathy Bressler has been named chief operating officer at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood and vice president for surgical and mental health services for the Franciscan Health System.
   
   She began her new responsibilities on Monday, Aug. 21.
   
   Bressler, who has managed several departments at St. Joseph Medical Center as well as regional services across the Franciscan organization since 1990, succeeds Brooks Sutton, who left St. Clare Hospital after seven years to relocate to the East Coast.

   "I'm excited to have been given this opportunity to work more closely with the great staff at, and the community served by, St. Clare Hospital," Bressler says. "I appreciate being part of an organization that is committed to excellence in patient care every day and to creating healthier communities."
   
   She holds bachelor and master's degrees in nursing from the University of Washington. Since joining the Franciscan organization 16 years ago, she has managed emergency services, medical-surgical services, the Ambulatory Care Center and burn-treatment services at St. Joseph, as well as Franciscan's regional orthopedic and gastrointestinal services.
   
   St. Clare Hospital is licensed for 106 patient beds and employs approximately 800 people. As the only hospital in Lakewood, St. Clare also serves residents of Steilacoom, Dupont, Parkland and other communities in the South Puget Sound.
   
   Last year, St. Clare expanded its services to include the addition of a state-of-the-art outpatient center that provides hospital services and medical office space for physicians.
   
   Bressler reports directly to Franciscan President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Wilczek, as do the chief operating officers at Franciscan's other hospitals - St. Joseph Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way.
