It didn't take long for Canton High football coach Tom Bresnahan to figure out it wasn't going to be the Bulldogs' night.
Just 16 seconds into Friday night's Hockomock League game at North Attleboro the visitors were down a touchdown. Things didn't get much better in a 47-0 loss that kept Canton not only winless at 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the league , but still searching for its first points of the season.
We made a lot of mistakes that put them in great scoring position for three scores , said Bresnahan. We're playing without six starters and four kids got hurt.
...
We had two opportunities , we threw three slants in row where the kid was open and the ball was overthrown and another was dropped , said Bresnahan. It's frustrating for me because I want to see the kids get ahead. We had to take a fullback and put him at receiver. We have Franklin coming up and we're just going to see who's healthy and go after it.
North scored 12 points in the second quarter to take a 40-0 lead at halftime.
...
Bresnahan was encouraged by how his team of mostly sophomore played against North's bench.
I'm seeing some positive things , said Bresnahan. In the second half when they put kids in who were the same age as our kids , they only scored one touchdown.
Canton found itself inside North's 35 four times and was inside the 10 on one drive , but couldn't get that elusive first score.

The decision was well-received by Canton High School principal Henry Lukas and football coach Tom Bresnahan.
...
Lukas and Bresnahan contend that Canton's players are small (an average of 5 feet 10 inches, 175 pounds), causing many to get injured.
