After seven years as president and CEO of ETV, Maurice "Moss" Bresnahan is leaving the sunny Palmetto State for drizzly Seattle, where he will head public television station KCTS.
Bresnahan, 48, who came to Columbia from WVPT in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, succeeded the late Paul Amos, who died in October 2000.He will remain in his job here until mid-November.
From his first day at ETV — on Sept. 10, 2001 — Bresnahan was faced with a number of difficulties, from decreased funding to staff cuts and a national tragedy.

Bresnahan has presided over several major initiatives at ETV, a statewide network of 11 TV stations, eight radio stations and an educational telecommunications system.Expanding its role as an educational resource was at the top of his agenda.

Creating a multiplatform media presence, including programs like StreamlineSC and a video-rich Web site, is part of Bresnahan's overall vision for public broadcasting.
"It is the way of the future," he said."We want to be everywhere."
Bresnahan and his staff also have navigated the change from analog to digital broadcasting and presented a proposal to turn unused frequencies into an educational broadband service for students and teachers.A legislative committee is reviewing that proposal.
