Code Enforcement Officer Bill Bresnahan says over the past two weeks the Police Department has received a high amount of concern from the community regarding a problem with counterfeit money."There has not been any unusual counterfeit activity in the Vail area," said Bresnahan."Counterfeit bills are usually ‘floaters' being brought into Vail from other areas, customarily by unaware visitors."
The Police Department encourages business to keep an eye out for such money, but not to be concerned that Vail is experiencing a counterfeit problem, says Bresnahan."This information is not intended to have merchants drop their guard toward counterfeit money," says Bresnahan."We just want to calm the concerns of the merchant community."
To avoid a problem with counterfeit money, Bresnahan encourages businesses to look carefully at each large de nomination bill.If the bill looks different or strange, do not accept the bill and notify the Police Department immediately.Business interested in receiving more information on detecting counterfeit money or other scams, may make an appointment with Bresnahan by calling 476-7603.
