    Father William Breslawski

    ...
Father William Breslawski, pastor of Holy Cross Church, Nesconset, will become pastor of Our Lady of Peace Church, Lynbrook, November 1.He will succeed Father Mark Rowan, who became associate pastor of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Franklin Square, July 8.Father Breslawski was founding co-pastor of Holy Cross Church, one of three parishes founded in Suffolk County in 1988.He and Father Joseph Schlafer (pastor of St. Joseph's, Garden City since 1999) worked together to establish the new Church which, like the others, was formed from parts of neighboring parishes that had grown very large. At Holy Cross Fathers Breslawski and Schlaefer offered leadership through the process of selecting a name, forming a community, and building a church which was dedicated in 1999. (Masses for the parish were at first celebrated in the auditorium of the Cleary School for the Deaf in Ronkonkoma.)"We quickly realized that we were not starting the parish from scratch," Father Breslawski said at the time. The people were already faith-filled and spirit-filled and "we just have been calling them together."Father Breslawski was born and attended parochial grammar school in the Bronx; his family later moved to St. James parish in Seaford. He attended Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in Manhattan and St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary, Union-dale, and then Cathedral College, Douglaston, where he played on the varsity basketball team and earned a degree in psychology magna cum laude. He continued his studies at North American College and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and at Immaculate Conception Seminary and was ordained a priest in 1979.Before his ordination he did pastoral work at St. Brigid's, Westbury and Corpus Christi, Mineola, and was an assistant chaplain at the Nassau County Jail in East Meadow. He served as a deacon at St. Ignatius Loyola, Hicksville.Father Breslawski served as associate pastor of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Franklin Square, from 1979-82 and of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Lindenhurst, until his appointment as co-pastor in Nesconset.
