John Edward Breshears B.S., M.Arch
Associate, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnreship
John Breshears has worked for more than fourteen years in the design and engineering of buildings.Throughout this time, his primary endeavor has been the elegant and expressive combination of technology and form.He has pursued lines of research into non-traditional solutions to architectural problems, particularly aspects of bio-mimetic design.
Initially, this work focused on structural applications to bridge engineering. In 1994, Mr. Breshears was awarded the Peter Rice Prize, given by the Ove Arup Partnership in memory of their late director, to support two years of original research into building engineering.During the tenure of this prize, he explored bio-mimetic applications to sustainable design, resulting in the development of an Enthalpy Recovery Ventilated Curtainwall System based on principles of the human lung.In 2003, Mr. Breshears was awarded a grant from the Lindbergh Foundation for research that furthers the balance between the advance of technology and the preservation of the natural environment.John Breshears' work on bio-mimetic research has been exhibited and published internationally.
Mr. Breshears is currently an Associate with the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership where he is engaged in applications of research to a number of structural, architectural, and urban design projects.Prior to this, he has worked in a variety of capacities with Moshe Safdie and Associates, Busby Bridge Architects, Max Fordham and Partners, Jourda et Perraudin Partenaires, and others.Mr. Breshears holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University and a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University.
