   Bresette said he'd heard the program had been successful in other communities.And it has.Since 1998, the One Book program has reached multiple communities in each of the 50 states, and several other countries.

   Tom Bresette , manager of the Nantucket Golf Club , says the club is committed to helping local community groups. While there is no written agreement , a charity dinner and auction , which is expected to be a regular event , raised more than $400 , 000 for Nantucket Ice , which wants to build an ice arena. In addition , Mr. Bresette says the course also makes regular contributions to island groups.

   Mr. Bresette says despite a rocky start a caddie program for island students remains a strong goal. All of the Vineyard developers promise strong high school programs and play time. The approximately 30 members of the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School golf team currently play free of charge on Farm Neck Golf Course. All three Island courses promise a high school program.
