Richard Brent was appointed Foundation Professor of Computer Science at the Australian National University in 1978.
In March 1998 he became the Statutory Professor of Computing Science in the University of Oxford.

Richard Brent awarded the 2005 Hannan Medal
Richard Brent has been awarded the 2005 Hannan Medal by the Australian Academy of Science for his work in applied and computational mathematics.
Richard was Foundation Professor of Computer Science at ANU and held a Chair in RSISE before taking up his current position as Professor of Computing Science and Fellow of St Hugh's College, Oxford in March 1998. He was a member of the original CMA back in the early 80s. He took up his Federation Fellowship in MSI on March 14 2005.
