In Rutland, Leslie Brenner, owner of the 11-room Inn at Rutland says, "We're pretty well totally booked for the foliage season. We seem to be ahead of last year. The big problem we see is people want just the Saturday or Friday and Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend."Brenner notes that area colleges are having parents' visiting days on Columbus Day Weekend, adding to the crunch for rooms that already exists in Vermont at that time of year. The parents generally want only Friday and Saturday nights. Many places require three-day stays on busy weekends.Brenner has called a couple of other lodging facilities in the area to check on their occupancy availability, but found only a few scattered nights open due mainly to cancellations. For example, the Munson House in Wallingford is booked on Columbus Weekend, but has space available on the other foliage weekends. She said that, as of early September, Cortina Inn in Killington and The Vermont Inn in Mendon did not have many rooms open for the three prime weekends and were starting to book up for mid-week nights."Nobody has Saturday night on Columbus Weekend," Brenner says.

"I hope the fall is good for everybody," Brenner says.
