r. Leon O. Brenner, a noted clinical psychologist and professor, died Friday at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was 74.
Dr. Brenner was a Boston native. He served as a lieutenant in the Army from 1946 to 1948. He completed undergraduate studies at Tufts University before receiving his doctorate in clinical psychology at Boston University.
Dr. Brenner was chief psychologist at the Framingham Youth Guidance Center for more than a decade. Also, he was a founding faculty member of the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in West Roxbury and was on the faculty of Boston University, where he taught for 10 years.
In addition, Dr. Brenner had an extensive private practice and was well-known for his workshops in many areas of psychological testing. He was known as a master teacher in the techniques of administrating the Rorschach Inkblot Test.
Dr. Brenner had served on the board of the Massachusetts Society of Clinical Psychologists and was a member of the Massachusetts Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Ruth (Berman); a son, Jeffrey of Newton; two daughters, Elise of Newton and C. J. Lori Elliott of Brookline; a brother, Robert of Dallas; his mother, Nettie Brenner of Dallas; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be held today at 9 a.m. in Levine Chapel in Brookline.
