"Our strong CARS rating lets investors know that they can trust our programs to return their money and make a difference in the lives of low income people," says Jeff Brenner, Chief Financial Officer of NCB Capital Impact.

As a large CDFI, NCB Capital Impact maintains strong systems and operating guidelines that enabled it to respond to the reviewer's request for information, Brenner adds.
"While we were extremely pleased with our ratings, the Impact score tells us that we must do a better job of telling our story," Brenner says.

"The report will offer participating investors all the information they should need for evaluating an investment in NCB Capital Impact and reduce the amount of time both organizations spend on due diligence," Brenner says. "We are an exceedingly complex organization, because unlike a standard bank we also provide technical assistance and policy development expertise. We are committed to the belief that it takes more than money to create a lasting economic impact in our communities. But we can't do our job without capital, and the rating confirms for our investors that we are a premier organization in our industry."
So far, a small number of investors subscribe to the OFN ratings reports. "We don't know yet if it will have a meaningful impact on our ability to raise funds," Brenner says.

Brenner agrees that beyond the rating, the process provided another valuable service. "It presented a great opportunity to have an outside organization assess us and benchmark us against our peers," Brenner says. "We learned a lot."
NCB Capital Impact provided $125 million in portfolio and loan program disbursements in 2005 and expects to do another $100 million in 2006. It will end the year with about $80 million in its loan portfolio and another $200 million in loans managed. Says Brenner, "We're proud of the confidence our current investors show in NCB Capital Impact, and our ability to leverage that capital to make a difference in communities that need it most."
