   Peter J. Brennan is a partner in Jenner & Block's Chicago office.He is a member of the Firm's Litigation Department and Business Litigation and Class Action Litigation Practices.
   
   Mr. Brennan practices in complex civil and commercial litigation involving a wide variety of substantive areas of the law.Since returning to private practice in 2004, he has worked on major pieces of litigation involving ERISA, RICO, tax allocation and environmental coverage disputes.He currently represents a major corporation in a putative nationwide consumer class action brought in one of the most challenging jurisdictions in the country.Recently, Mr. Brennan was brought into a case as appellate counsel and he successfully argued the matter before the Delaware Supreme Court, which overturned the lower court's multimillion dollar verdict.Mr. Brennan joined Jenner & Block after serving for many years as Associate General Counsel-Litigation for Sears, Roebuck and Co.'s corporate law department.In that capacity, he supervised antitrust, consumer class action, ERISA, insurance coverage, intellectual property, securities, and other commercial and product liability litigation throughout the country.During his tenure at Sears, Mr. Brennan also took on additional assignments including supervising all the legal affairs for many of Sears' businesses and advising on product safety and employment-related issues.
   
   Prior to his work for Sears, Mr. Brennan was Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago Law Department where he gained extensive trial experience defending the City on a broad array of matters covering commercial, constitutional, employment, civil rights, tax, tort and other disputes.Most notably, in a trial featured in the National Law Journal, he obtained a jury verdict in favor of the defendant City of Chicago after plaintiff declined a $7,000,000 (publicly disclosed) settlement offer.
   
   Mr. Brennan began his legal career as an associate in the litigation department of a large New York law firm (Kaye Scholer).

   Mr. Brennan is a former chair of the Litigation Committee of the Association of Corporate Counsel (formerly American Corporate Counsel Association).He is a member of the American Bar Association and its Section of Litigation as well as the Chicago Bar Association.
   
   Mr. Brennan attended Georgetown University Law Center, where he received his J.D. in 1985 and served as managing editor of The Tax Lawyer.From 1985 to 1987, he served as a staff law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.Mr. Brennan is admitted to practice in Illinois and New York and is a member of the bars of the United States Courts of Appeal for the Seventh and Sixth Circuits and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, Southern District of New York and Eastern District of New York.Mr. Brennan is also a member of the trial bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

   Mr. Brennan is a former chair of the Litigation Committee of the Association of Corporate Counsel (formerly American Corporate Counsel Association). He is a member of the American Bar Association and its Section of Litigation as well as the Chicago Bar Association.
