After the town meeting, Wachusett Regional School District Business Manager Peter V. Brennan said the total positive vote at town meetings in the five towns over the past couple weeks was more than two-thirds, and that the measure had passed.

Peter Brennan, business manager for the Wachusett Regional School District, said the district began using Energy Education in October of 2006.

He said savings for this fiscal year are projected to be at $500,000.

He said the savings to the district have allowed them to do deferred maintenance, including equipment repair to thermostats and other equipment.

"And because of the conservation, those should have a long life," he said.

Brennan said Energy Education computes cost avoidance.

"Meaning that if you hadn't have used the program it would have cost this," he said.

Asked about the 22.8 percent hike in education aid, Wachusett district's business manager Peter V. Brennan said yesterday, "I would like to think there is an adjustment in the formula to take into account the 20 percent reduction the district endured in fiscal 2004."Layoffs that year numbered close to 40, he said.

"We have been able to gradually bring more teachers on board.The district has been fortunate that member towns have agreed to spend over the foundation budget amount," Mr. Brennan said.
