   John was appointed Chief Executive at Association of Colleges in September 2003 where he had been Director of Further Education Development since 1996.John has worked over many years on a range of issues affecting the FE sector and the management of colleges.
   
   John taught in a comprehensive school and in higher education.After a spell with the former Department of Education and Science he then became Assistant Education Officer in Coventry LEA, then moved to Wiltshire LEA as Assistant Director for Further Education.He was actively involved throughout the 1970s and 1980s in the development of further education at a regional and national level.
   
   Since becoming Chief Executive, John has been extensively involved in promoting the work of colleges to a wide range of audiences, in representing issues of concern to colleges and to learners to Ministers, Parliament, government departments and other public bodies, and in ensuring that the college contribution is fully reflected in policy-making.He continues to maintain an involvement in a wide range of bodies, including the Government's Skills Alliance.
