Taking over is Joe Brennan, who brings with him a great deal of playing success at all levels. He also comes in with a solid background of coaching experience, drawing on his years as an assistant and head coach at Northland College.
...
Brennan inherits an Oredockers team that went 11-11 overall under Craig Coffland last year. With a handful of key returners back, there's solid potential but Brennan said they're still getting acclimated with each other.
"We'll have five (players who started) so that will be a big plus," he said. "But they will be learning a new system."
In the little over a week they've had together, Brennan likes what he sees in a number of areas. The Dockers' perimeter play and depth in particular have impressed him.
"We've got some seniors who are capable of shooting the ball," he said. "I think we can go 9-10 deep pretty easily and not lose a whole lot. We're looking at getting everyone in, working hard, hustling and having some fun."
The biggest adjustment at this point isn't so much physical as it is mental. Brennan said he thinks the team has to relax and not force matters.
"Just be patient," he said. "Sometimes they want to make things happen right away but we need to just be patient."
Brennan played high school basketball at Butternut High School, where he graduated in 1979, and went to UW-Barron County. He transferred to Northland College, where he played from 1982-84.
After serving as an assistant to Northland coach Nick Bystrom for two years, Brennan was the head coach for four seasons.
...
Brennan said he feels very good about the coaches and assistants he has around him. Back at the JV level is Dick Sundberg, who Brennan has worked with in the college ranks.
...
"We were at Northland College and we worked well together there," said Brennan. "We've got the same philosophy so we're a good complement."
...
"We've got a very good corps of coaches," said Brennan.
