His mother, Joan Brennan, was the first woman appointed United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of California.He also served several years as Judge Pro Tem, handling small claims disputes.
With a broad range of support from Mendocino County Supervisors Jim Wattenburger and Hal Wagenet, Ukiah Police Chief John Williams and City Councilmembers Phil Baldwin and John McCowen, Brennan said he is motivated by the number of people who expressed their support immediately after he announced his candidacy.
"I have been encouraged and gratified at the response to my candidacy.People from all political stripes, right, left, Democrats, Republicans and Greens have all expressed enthusiastic support for my candidacy," he said.
People are often in court during a time of personal crisis for a divorce, death, crime, business situation or accident, Brennan said, and they must know that a judge will listen to all sides of a case and show compassion for everyone involved in a particular situation.
"I believe a judge should be a reasonable person and get input from all sides of a problem.That is how I look at the world, and I am not a political extremist," Brennan said.
