   WYOMISSING, Pa., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Sovereign Bank announced the appointment of James R. Brennan as senior vice president and senior regional manager for the Schuylkill/Northern Berks market in Pennsylvania. His responsibilities will include promoting, directing and leading all sales initiatives in the region. Brennan's office is located in Pottsville.
   
   Prior to joining Sovereign, Brennan was vice president and regional commercial banking manager for Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company, Buffalo, N.Y. He was also executive vice president and regional lending administrator for Keystone Financial Inc., Harrisburg, Pa., and vice president and senior relationship market banker for Pennsylvania National Bank and Trust Company, Pottsville, Pa. Brennan was promoted from several positions while at Pennsylvania National Bank.
   
   Brennan has a bachelor's degree in business administration/finance from Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
   
   He is past president and past member of the Manufacturers Association of Mid-Eastern Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, the Finance/Audit Committee of the Good Samaritan Regional Hospital, Pottsville, and the Relay for Life Committee. He was a founding member of the Schuylkill County Homebuyers Coalition. He is also a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
   
   Brennan resides in Pottsville with his wife, Barbara, and children, Karen, Kelly, and Michael.
