   Bon Secours' IT director Ian Brennan says i.PM results reporting is proving a catalyst for getting clinical staff to use computers routinely. "Being Windows-based, the system is highly intuitive so everyone is finding it easy to use.
   
   "Having all the patient information needed in one place is a huge asset," he said.

   "System uptime is vital to us - our consultants and medical staff rely on applications and medical data being always available," said Ian Brennan, IT Manager at Bons Secours. "In the short term, Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server allowed us to focus on achieving our strategic goal - building a state-of-the-art medical information system. Longer-term, it has allowed us to run this system without increasing costs."
   
   Prior to implementing Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server, Brennan's single biggest ongoing cost was ensuring that application upgrades and patches were implemented consistently across the hospital's large site. Now, Brennan can effectively manage and upgrade all of the hospital's applications from central servers - without needing to worry about client software incompatibilities, and without having to add to his original staff of three. As a result, Bon Secours has been able to increase the range and complexity of applications available to hospital staff without increasing the burden of application administration.

   Future Plans: Reaching Out to the Community Brennan and his team are looking to use MetaFrame Presentation Server to extend secure access to some of the hospital's systems to 500 General Practioners working in Cork. "It's a logical next step for us to build on the manageability of our Citrix architecture by sharing appropriate information with local doctors - for example, enabling them to instantly book consultant appointments for their patients, or giving them access to the most up-to-date medical information available."
