   Elva Brennan, treasurer of the Ajax Seniors' Friendship Club since 1979, has been named Ajax Senior of the Year.
   
   Elva and her husband Jim settled in the area before it became Ajax.

   Through the DIL days Elva was busy at home and also helped care for extended families who had come to work at the plant from all over Ontario and Canada.
   
   After the war Elva worked at Ajax Marketeria and volunteered for Lord Elgin's Home and School Association as social convenor. Her other volunteer endeavours included the Ajax Interdenominational Church Ladies' Aid, and Bible school. She joined Simpsons Sears in 1953 and worked there until her retirement in 1978.
   
   Soon after retirement, Elva joined the Ajax Seniors' Friendship Club and took on the post of treasurer, which she has held since. As part of the executive, she helps organize social events and special functions. She also participates in euchre and crafts.
   
   Elva has three children: Jimmy and twins Geraldine and Gerald.

   During a reception yesterday at the seniors' club, Ajax Mayor Steve Parish said her family jokes that Elva is so busy they have to make appointments to see her.
   
   "Elva has been part of the history of Ajax and remains a very active member of the community," he said. "She is very highly respected and appreciated by the membership of the Ajax Seniors' Friendship Club. It is truly a pleasure for me to congratulate Elva and thank her for all her hard work.
