Dan Brennan, a spokesman for Go Travel Direct, said the investigation stems from a complaint by his company.
"Some time ago, Go Travel Direct had placed a complaint with the Competition Bureau stating concerns that we were receiving unfair pressure from the industry, certain players in the industry kind of hindering us from doing our business," he said.
Brennan said the pressure surrounded Go Travel's direct-sale model.
"I guess the direct-sale model has been unpopular with a lot of the players in the market, so what they've done is they've been putting pressure on hotels for dealing with Go Travel Direct and we felt that this is in contravention of the Competition Act."
Go Travel Direct was established in 2000 and operates flights during the winter from Canada to southern destinations. It sells directly to the public, unlike most of the Canadian travel industry, which makes its products available exclusively through travel agents.
Brennan said he did not know specifics of the Competition Bureau's investigation but said Go Travel had made its initial complaint in 2003. -

With the Canadian dollar hovering at 75 cents US, Canadians are heading back to their favourite hotspots in Florida and the Caribbean for some Christmas cheer, according to industry insiders.
Direct-sell vacation package travel agency Go Travel Direct is sending 800 Ottawa passengers south for the holiday season, said Go Travel marketing director Dan Brennan.
The strength of the Canadian dollar has rates for vacation packages down 16 per cent from last year, Brennan said.

Mexico is the most popular destination, especially the Mayan Riviera, according to Brennan, with Puerto Plata and Cuba right behind.
Brennan said the Christmas season is almost full but there is some availability. A strong campaign launched in early November helped the company fill seats, he said.
"There's a lot of capacity in this market but being a direct seller we offer a lot of benefits," said Brennan.
