   Bob Brennan makes sure freshmen at Truman High School in Independence have mastered their English skills.
   
   He also teaches leadership skills to upper level students and is the advisor for the Student Council. At 49 , he has nine years of teaching behind him and has been in three career fields.
   
   Brennan was a youth minister at the First Baptist Church in Independence before he started up an office supply business.
   
   But that's not what I wanted to do , Brennan said. So I sold my interest in it..
   
   And from there he want back to college and completed 60 graduate hours in just three semesters. He student taught at William Chrisman High School and then began full-time at Truman in the 1991-1992 school year.
   
   Brennan said his background as a youth minister allowed him to make the change to teaching. He likes teaching because it gives him an opportunity to be involved in the lives of young people and be a positive example to them.
   
   I think I can make a difference in at least one life , Brennan said.
