Mark Breneman graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in German language and literature. He attended the University of Minnesota, doing graduate work in historical linguistics. He left the academic world to manage the family farm corporation for 13 years. In 1985 he left agriculture to pursue a career in financial planning and investments.
