"We will have more than 30 this summer," said Dan Breneman, general manager of Meadowbrook, who said a good outing must give golfers a reason to come back next year as well as earn money for the charities.
...
Breneman said if the cost is kept around $25 per person that really helps encourage the maximum number of players.

Breneman said a course charges a fee to the organization up front and then all the rest of the day's proceeds go to the sponsoring organization's charity of choice.
...
"It's for competitive reasons," added Breneman.
Some courses occasionally waive their fee, according to Breneman.
"We will not charge the United Way when we host their outing here later in the summer," said Breneman.
