Orville Brenden
Nov. 16, 1915-June 14, 2003 Orville A. Brenden, 84, of Audubon, passed away Friday, June 27, 2003 at Emmanuel Community Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, where he had been a resident since May 22. Orville Arnold Brenden was born Dec. 9, 1918, at Alexander, N.D., to Adolph and Margaret (Lein) Brenden.

Orville was inducted into the U.S. Army June 13, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minn., and served in the 58th Armored Field Artillery as a technician fifth grade, field maintenance.He saw action in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Orville was wounded in the Mediterranean Theatre on Aug. 3, 1944, and was awarded a Purple Heart.He received an honorable discharge on Aug. 6, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wis. After his military service, Orville attended the Hanson Mechanical Trade School, Fargo and after completion was employed as a mechanic at Moorhead auto dealerships: Harris Brothers, Keifer Chevrolet and retired in 1980 from Jay Davis Chevrolet. Orville married Ethel (Evenson) Bensen on June 21, 1966, in Sisseton, S.D.

Orville enjoyed restoring old stationary engines and had been a member of the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion for many years.Other organizational memberships were the Teamsters, VFW, American Legion and the Sons of Norway. He was never too busy to turn down a game of pinochle or horseshoes with his family/friends and other card games with his grandchildren.Orville believed he was more competitive if there was a small wager on the game.
