   Bremond, who had a bachelor's degree in business management from Pepperdine University, transformed the annual gathering into a thriving business concern. He remained its president until illness forced him to step aside two years ago, annual attendance having peaked at upwards of 10,000 beachgoers-sometimes to the discomfort of local police who stood by and watched the world-famous seaside resort's Black population double literally overnight.

   Bremond was aggressive about ATB's responsibility to ensure that the event, renowned for sensual revelry, promoted safe sex and discouraged substance abuse. Recognizing an opportunity to showcase Black gay responsibility and class, Bremond and his partners consciously channeled their annual guests' pursuit of pleasure into a weekend of sophisticated display, performance and delights that amounted to party as art.
   
   The result was a nationwide community organization at the forefront of the fight against homophobia and AIDS. ATB made significant donations to HIV-related activities in support of the needs of people of color. The organization sponsors a thousand-dollar scholarship for a student who is (or is the child of someone who is) gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered.
   
   Bremond was supported in all of his endeavors-even this last year's return to active involvement in ATB despite failing health-by his companion in life, Will Harris.

   Son of the late Walter Bremond, founder of the Brotherhood Crusade which is still one of the foremost advocacy and service organizations for minorities in Los Angeles, Bremond was involved with a number of civic endeavors to address the concerns of people of color and same-gender-loving people in addition to ATB.
