Steve Bremner - Head of Engineering Technology Section

Steve joined BAS way back in August 1984 as a mechanical engineer, later moving on to head of mechanical engineering within the Instrumentation & Systems Group. His career prior to joining BAS had been quite varied, having worked in the electronics industry, car industry and more recently at the BBC television centre in west London. He has wide experience of design, development and manufacturing particularly with regard to electro - mechanical engineering projects.

Over the last 15 years he has worked on a range of projects at BAS. These include design and development of equipment such as the Long Piston Corer, Ice Core Drill, Dilution Gauge and equipment used on the ROPEX project.

Much of his work has been project based, although he has travelled south on many occasions supporting different science programmes. Steve has spent a great deal of time over the past 10 years in support of science cruises, both for BAS and users outside of BAS. His role has recently changed and for his sins he now has the unenviable task of managing ETS.
