The awards ceremony took place during a gala dinner at the London Hilton on 24 May, with special guest speaker Rory Bremner. However, the focus was very much on the winners of what are seen as the most prestigious awards for the tax profession.
Adam has enjoyed a distinguished career, which started within taxation in 1964 when he commenced to specialise in tax with a broad range of corporate and personal clients. During his career, Adam worked for a top 4 firm and set up his own specialist private client practice before joining Mercer & Hole as a partner, through a merger in 2001. Adam's technical knowledge as a tax advisor, his relationship with his clients and quality as a professional advisor were extensively highlighted in the nomination for his award. Throughout his career, Adam has held many important roles including President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Tax Faculty and Master of the Company of Tax Advisers.
The nomination for Adam was accompanied by plaudits from an influential list of contributors who highlighted many elements of Adam's career, including his contribution to the modernisation of tax legislation and particularly his tireless work to steer the Inland Revenue's Tax Law Rewrite project. He has always been at the forefront of the tax profession, leading it in dealing with substantive tax issues and also in helping to improve the relationship between the profession and the Inland Revenue.
Partners of Mercer & Hole attended the ceremony and joined the many distinguished guests to congratulate Adam on his success.
