    Tom Braatz is entering his second season in his current role after serving as the team's Director of College Scouting from 1992-01.During his nine-year tenure as the club's Director of College Scouting, Braatz played a key role in the selection of a number of players who made an immediate impact as rookies, including the 1994 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, defensive lineman Tim Bowens, wide receiver O.J. McDuffie, linebackers Zach Thomas and Derrick Rodgers, defensive linemen Daryl Gardener and Jason Taylor, cornerbacks Sam Madison and Patrick Surtain, offensive tackle Todd Wade, a consensus all-rookie selection in 2000 as a second-round draft choice, and wide receiver Chris Chambers, a consensus all-rookie choice last year, who also was a second round pick.

    Braatz joined the Dolphins with a wealth of NFL experience and is regarded as one of the leading personnel experts in professional football.He is a veteran of 37 years in the NFL as a front office executive, personnel director, and talent scout with the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers, and the Dolphins.

    Including his stint as a player, the 2002 season will mark the 42nd that Braatz has been associated with the NFL.

    From 1987 through 1991, Braatz served as Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Packers, where his duties included the hiring and managing of the scouting staff, conducting the college draft, handling trades and waivers, and conducting contract negotiations with players.

    Before joining the Packers on January 31, 1987, Braatz was a member of the Atlanta Falcons' front office since the club's inception in 1965.He joined the team as an area scout, and went on to hold a number of positions with the Falcons, including Director of Player Personnel, Director of Scouting, and General Manager.While in Atlanta, Braatz's principal responsibility was overseeing the draft, where he was responsible for bringing a number of Pro Bowl players to the Falcons including William Andrews, Gerald Riggs, Mike Kenn, Bill Fralic, and Steve Bartkowski.He also handled most of the club's contract negotiations in the later years of his tenure with the Falcons.

    Before beginning his executive career in the NFL, Braatz played with the Washington Redskins as a linebacker and closed out his pro career under Tom Landry with the Dallas Cowboys in their charter 1960 season.He played collegiately at Marquette University, where he captained the school's football team as a senior.

    Braatz, 69, and his wife, Jeri, have two sons, Tommy, 39, and Jon, 35.
