    Then yesterday, the school's principal, Alexandria Bowe, said she was moved to tears when she saw Shipyard employees clearing out the debris-filled classrooms.

    "When I arrived here, I was literally moved to tears because the men from the Shipyard were here, they were in the classrooms, and they were working," Mrs. Bowe stated."It's just unbelievable."

    Mrs. Bowe said that because Hurricane Wilma put the campus in such a poor physical state, she was a little doubtful that the school would be reoponed as quickly as possible.However, she said that the community's assistance has been a great upliftment and her confidence in school commencing post-haste is now sky-high.

    "I know that math is a major concern for the nation," says school principal Alexandria Bowe."I wanted to try and see how to build critical thinking skills and how we could get the students excited about math.The problem with math," she observes, "is that children feel inhibited and they're a little afraid of math."

    The principal sought to change attitudes towards the subject during Math Week.The apparent success of the initiative brings a bright smile to her face.The sight of children running to solve math problems is all that she had hoped for and more.

    "Even though kids usually shy away from problem solving, to see them so excited about tackling word problems was really an incentive for me," says Mrs. Bowe.

    City of Freeport Council Deputy Chief Councillor April Crowther-Gow and a sibling, on behalf of their entire family, on Thursday presented a cheque to St. Vincent de Paul School Principal Alexandria Bowe to replace the textbooks of 15 students whose school supplies had been destroyed by Hurricane Wilma's floodwaters.

    Director of Catholic Education, Claudette Rolle, who was assessing damages the structure sustained with the school's principal, Alexandria Bowe, said that six of the school's classrooms are in the process of being salvaged so that children can return to school as of Tuesday, November 1.
