Al Bouie, who will retire at the end of this month as recruitment and retention director for Volusia schools, views the program in a different light."DROP was put in place to encourage teachers and administrators to stay a little longer," said Bouie, who completed the program three years ago.
He returned to work a month later and, for the past two years, has been collecting a state retirement check plus his regular paycheck."Retirement is something you earn all along the way.What you're getting is something you've earned through your years of service; it doesn't take away salary from the district," he said.
