  The FSB's Health and Safety Chairman, Mary Boughton, addressed the conference on a variety of related issues.However, the main message from small businesses is that Health and Safety legislation is a huge burden on small firms and is often disproportionate to the problem to be resolved by the laws.
  
  The average small business owner spends 28 hours a month filling in forms, time they could much better spend growing the business to create more local jobs.

  Ms Boughton pointed to previous research which found a quarter of SMEs find it "difficult or impossible" to secure Employers Liability Compulsory Insurance and that insurers were failing to take good health and safety records into account.

  Dorwest Herbs Ltd director, Mary Boughton , has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to business and the community in Dorset . Many congratulations to her on this achievement.On hearing of the award Mary said:
  
  "I am absolutely thrilled to receive such an honour.It came as a total surprise; you just don't expect to receive something like this.It is really quite humbling when I think of all the work that so many other people do as well, but it is very nice to be recognised in this way."
  
  Mary will be travelling to Buckingham Palace to receive the award later in the year.
  
  Mary as also recently published a book entitled ,Herbal Medicine for Dogs' This is the first book to be published for many, many years on this subject and is a particularly welcome addition to all dog lovers' libraries.
