"The kids had a blast," said Chuck Boudreau, head coach for the Zone 7 inline hockey team. Hockey didn't finish as well as Boudreau thought they would, but he said they kept up with the teams including "giving the gold medal team a run for their money." On Sunday afternoon, following a one-hour break from the morning game, Zone 7 faced off against Zone 5. The final score was 9-4, but Boudreau said it wasn't as bad as it sounds. "It was 4-3 until eight-and-a-half minutes left in the game. Then they just ran out of gas," he said. The Zone 7 athletes had an 8:00 a.m. game which meant the athletes were awake at 5:30 a.m. In the morning match against Zone 2, Zone 7 lost 9-4. "They (Zone 5) got to sleep in ... but we still kept up with them until eight minutes into the game," Boudreau added. The first game of the tournament on Friday night, he said the kids were nervous and admittedly, a little slow, but their goalie stood out. "Kurt (McLean) stood on his head in that game. He was phenomenal," said Boudreau. The final score was 8-4 for Zone 4. Boudreau added, despite the fact that the team ended in eighth place, the team members will be friends forever, not only from the local team, but from their opponents as well, which he added gave the true meaning to the "Spirit of the Games". -

"They're a super group of kids with some great parents, which really makes it easy," said Zone 7 head coach Chuck Boudreau.

"We ended up with a little bit of a smaller camp than I wanted, but the athletes that came out were basically the top athletes in the zone," said Boudreau. "They're the best of the best." All inline hockey teams participating in the summer games are only allowed 4.5 hours of practice time before the tournament, so team cohesiveness can often be a problem. To combat against this, Boudreau and the team members will be heading out on a team building weekend so the athletes have a chance to get to know each other. The Zone 7 team came home with a bronze medal at the last Alberta Summer Games and Boudreau is hoping to do better this time around.
