    We settled on Saline because of the availability of industrial land , as well as skilled workforce , said Paul Boucher , president of Chelsea Industries.

    The company , part of Toledo-based Stonebridge Industries , had looked at many locations , including other areas in Chelsea.A 50 percent tax abatement for 11 years and training grants from Saline helped in the decision to move , Boucher said.

    Manufacturing activities are expected to begin at the new facility in March 2002.

    We're lucky that someone saw the fire when they did and no one was hurt , said Paul Boucher , president of Chelsea Industries.

    A plant employee noticed the flames in an area next to the shipping and receiving dock at the south end of the building and immediately alerted someone , Boucher said.

    On most days , a crew of 100 employees is usually in the building making automotive seat frames , he said.However , the building was shut down for the past week and only a handful of people were in the 300 , 000-square-foot building.

    The area of the building that was involved in the fire has been vacant for more than a year , Boucher said.Chelsea Industries occupies the first floor , while Underground Printing and Abrasive Finishing use the upper floors.

    Officials from Underground Printing and Abrasive Finishing were not available for comment.
