Belleville resident Judy Boucher saw the worst of the storm -- a tree went through the roof of her South 10th Street home.
At first she thought the loud noise was hail. When her daughter, Kim, said she thought it was something else, Boucher peeked out the window to find her old maple tree in a new spot.
Boucher said she was glad no one was hurt and that the tree didn't damage anyone else's home.
"I came out to make sure everyone else was OK and saw that I wasn't," she said.
She was surprised the tree hadn't caused more damage. While the tree was enormous, there was just a 2-by-1-foot hole in the roof, and a bucket caught most of the rain that came in.
Boucher, who is a news clerk for the News-Democrat, said that until the power company could address the situation, the tree service couldn't remove the tree.
