"The program has been so successful we now have consumers who write the message on cards (when they ship the fruit as gifts)," said Joe Bouch, vice president and client services director of Orlando's Cramer Krasselt, the agency that came up with the camapaign.
Bouch won approval from the Florida Citrus Commission on Thursday to continue the campaign, but with a slightly reduced budget. This year's budget is $450,000, plus $60,000 in DOC printing expenditures. The ad budget last year was $460,000.
Bouch told the commission the agency is planning to concentrate more on promoting Internet sales. In addition to highway billboards and TV commercials urging gift buyers to phone 888-PICK-FLA, Cramer Krasselt has developed a Web site at www.pickfla.com, where you can order fruit from vendors on a rotating basis.
But the send-a-hug message is gone.
The new sales pitch is simply: "Send a sweet gift."
