Gerald "Jerry" Botzum is an Indianapolis-born Hoosier, now residing in Avon. He holds an undergraduate degree from Purdue and graduate degrees from both Purdue and Indiana University. Hi His artistic interests date back to his youth. Early efforts in local competitions produced a number of award-winning pieces. His studies with instructors of both state and national distinction has assisted him in developing his art to an even higher level. He has participated in many major state, regional and national juried exhibitions, including: Oil Painters of America, Hoosier Salon, Indiana Governor's Residence, Dream Home of Indianapolis, Indiana Artists Club, Hilbert Circle Theatre, Columbia Club Foundation, Indianapolis Museum of Art Alliance, Indiana Plein Air Artists, Watercolor Society of Indiana, Southside Art League, Quincy Illinois Quad State Regional, Central Indiana Artists, American States Insurance, French Lick Springs Resort, Brown County Art Guild, Indiana State Fair, Nashville Country Club, Indiana Heritage Arts, Crown Hill Society, and many more. He has earned awards in many of these exhibitions. His works are in private collections both nationally and internationally. Jerry has a great appreciaton for people and nature and often recognized conflicts and paradoxes found in life. As a doctoral-level behavioral clinician, he uses his understanding of the human condition to capture and express an empathic emotional quality in him paintings. He pursues a mastery of the "atmospheric" or "moody" quality that he beliieves to be so important in such paintiings. Jerry does both sutdio and plein art painting with works including scenes from his numerous painting trips and travels to France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, England, many tropical islands, and the coastlines and waterways of the U.S. as well as an abundance of Indiana landscapes. -
