   Todd Bottorff, co-founder and vice-president of operations for Atlanta, Ga.-based Helios Health, said that his company provides Internet-enabled "e.Stations," free of charge, to doctors and hospitals for placement in their waiting rooms. According to the company, each Helios Health e.Station has a live Internet connection infused with bandwidth heavy video, audio and animation clips loaded on the Web server, creating an interactive experience above and beyond what the Web can currently offer. Bottorff said that the purpose of the e.Stations is to provide health-related online information to waiting room patients, and that they are not able to surf the Web freely due to filters that exclude "objectionable" sites from appearing on e.Station screens. What does appear, along with general health-care content, is a complementary homepage featuring the doctor or hospital in which a particular e.Station is located, as well as links to any Website maintained by that doctor or hospital. Bottorff says that the alliance of Helios Health with MindSpring is directed at the more than one-third of e.Station users who do not currently have Internet access. MindSpring and Helios hope that by using an e.Station, patients will get an opportunity to experience the benefits of the Internet first hand and then will take the opportunity offered and sign up for MindSpring Internet access. Helios currently has e.Stations in 20 major metropolitan markets across the country, and has a first-wave goal of installing 1,000 terminals by May. Nine hundred sites have already been committed, he said.
