The center's white aluminum siding and the homey front door may give the impression one is actually entering someone's home, but the Riley Center is a state-of-the-art child-care facility with a well-trained staff, according to director Tamra Bottomlee.
The Riley Center has operated for 20 years, although the present building is only 12 years old. It houses two, large preschool rooms for ages 3-5 and a kindergarten room for children who will be
5 years old by July 1 of a program year.
"The center is licensed for 117 children; there are 70 children presently enrolled," said Bottomlee.
The purpose of the center is to "provide the best possible care for the children of students, staff and the community," Bottomlee said. "Most people do not know that we are open to the community, but we are."
The Riley Center helps the university in several ways. "It is a safe place for learning and development for the children ...," said Bottomlee.

Bottomlee also considers the child-care center an opportunity to build long-term relationships with families connected to PUC by "enrollment, employment or location."
...
"The Riley Center is a licensed laboratory for students of the university who are enrolled in early childhood development, nursing, psychology, and marriage and family and other degree programs," said Bottomlee, who is also on the teaching staff of PUC's early childhood development program.
