Michael Bottini Director of opto-Products
Mr. Bottini has over 30 years of experience in Optoelectronics. He began his career with Monsanto Special Products who was a pioneer in the commercialization of III-V materials for light emitting applications. While at Monsanto Mr. Bottini developed and patented the first Optocoupler (an LED coupled to a Photo Detector) in a Plastic DIP which resulted in a 10x cost reduction of the component launching what is today a $700M/year worldwide market for the product.
When General Instrument purchased the Monsanto Opto business in 1979, Mr. Bottini was chosen to manage Sales and Marketing for the Opto Division of GI. At that time the product line included optocouplers, LED lamps, LED displays, IRLED emitters and silicon photo detectors.
In 1988, Mr. Bottini joined the Siemens Opto group located in Cupertino, CA were he was responsible for the Optocoupler business unit. He developed and executed a business plan that resulted in nearly a 10x increase in sales by 2001. Aggressive product cost reduction, quality improvement and capacity expansion combined with superior customer service resulted in moving Siemens into the top three worldwide suppliers of optocouplers capturing major worldwide customers in the Telecom, Industrial and Power Supply markets.
When Siemens split the optoelectronics business into IR components and Visible components Mr. Bottini was named Vice President of the Infrared Components Business Unit.
In 2003, he joined SunPower Corporation as Director of Opto Components.
Mr. Bottini received a BSME from the University of Santa Clara and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley. -
