Julia is Consultant Physiotherapist, North Surrey, acute & primary care.She has maintained a passion for respiratory care since working in the assisted ventilation (Lane Fox) unit, St Thomas' Hospital, where she qualified with credit (much to the Principle's amazement) in 1974.Her research put NIV for acute respiratory failure on the map in 1993.
Julia was the 1st physiotherapist on Council at the British Thoracic Society (2001-4), instigating a Working Party to improve the profile of physiotherapy.She leads on two sets of Guidelines: 'Respiratory Physiotherapy', and 'Home Care in COPD'.She is Chair of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Physiotherapy Group and the UK representative for an ERS Taskforce, 'Physiotherapy in the critically ill adult patient'.Julia is AHP representative on the DH Respiratory HRG and Respiratory Representative on the Rehabilitation HRG.She has numerous publications on a variety of topics and is proud to be President elect of the ACPRC.
