   A Southern California native, Barry came to San Diego for college at California Western University on a theatre scholarship. He won Best Actor Awards all three years he attended.
   
   After college, Barry began a 38-year legacy as a teacher, with thirty-one years spent as teacher and director of the Granite Hills Acting Workshop (GHAW) at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California.
   
   In 1980, after establishing GHAW as an outstanding high school theatre program, Barry founded the Youth SummerStock Theatre, an independent, non-profit summer program for 13 to 19 year olds. SummerStock has trained a remarkable number of actors and technical people over the past 24 years that continue to work throughout San Diego theatre venues. Under Barry's direction, SummerStock has also won numerous awards for musical theatre, actors and productions through the Associated Community Theatres of San Diego (ACT San Diego), including 5 Aubrey Awards for SummerStock's 2002 season, and 25 nominations in 12 categories for lthe 2003 season (results for 2004 Season as yet unknown).
   
   In 1994, Barry received the Cox Cable San Diego County Teacher of the Year, as well as thge" Hats Off to Teachers Award". Most recently, he was inducted into the San Diego County Theatre Teacher Hall of Fame.
   
   Now retired from teaching, Barry continues to produce Youth SummerStock Theatre every summer.
