"We told the researchers that they had to get the stylists involved, because the stylists are the ones dealing with the customers," says Morris Boswell, chairman of the cosmetology department at Guilford Technical Community College and a member of the BEAUTY advisory board.

Boswell adds that it's difficult to estimate the project's benefits, since health messages could travel far beyond the salons."Customers who learned something from their stylist might talk about it with family and friends and other people," he says.

"Moving a cosmetology school is not like moving an English classroom," said Morris "Boz" Boswell, chairman of the department.

Boswell considered spots both on and off campus in hopes of landing the school a temporary home, but he found nothing.

"To be back in a partnership here with (Leon's) for the summer program, it's like coming full circle," Boswell mused.

JAMESTOWN,Morris "Boz" Boswell, chair of the Cosmetology Department at Guilford Technical Community College, has been elected president of the North Carolina Community College Cosmetology Instructors Association (NCCCCIA).

As president of the NCCCCIA, Boswell will be responsible for developing andproviding educational opportunities for the members.He also will be working with the North Carolina State Cosmetology Board in curriculum development testing, and in other areas related to cosmetology programs and the North Carolina Community College System.

Boswell has been a member of the GTCC faculty since 2001, and has been an advisory board member for the Cosmetology Department for over 14 years.Before coming to GTCC, he was a saloon owner and was an educational consultant for Bronner Brothers Hair Care in Atlanta, Ga.He also was vice chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts.He is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University.

Anne Hockett, chair of the Public Service Technologies Division at GTCC , said Boswell accepted his new responsibility "with the same professionalism he exhibits on a daily basis" by providing an eight-hour professional development session for the NCCCCIA held at Beaufort County Community College.
