   "Everyone on that walk has a story," said Barbara Boswell, accounting manager for the city of Santa Clarita.

   Boswell and her sisters, Joanne Buckles and Tina Sandoval, said they don't want others to go through the pain of fearing there isn't enough money for a mammogram and treatments.

   Boswell said it seemed as if her own mother was with her every step when she participated in the event for the first time in 2000.
   
   "As a result of that first walk, I got a foot injury," she said. "When the doctors did a pre-op for the operation, they found I had cancer on my right lung."
   
   Boswell, who is fine and received minimal treatments because the cancer was caught early, has one simple explanation for her recovery.
   
   "I wouldn't have known otherwise if I hadn't hurt my foot in the walk," she said.
